Ralph MDS- Day 4 & 5

Day 4+5 82km overnight stage took me 18hours which felt like the longest day and night of my life. It hit 52 degrees during the day but cooled off nicely at night. We had to scale no less than 40km of sand dunes and if I never see another one I wont worry. I had a great Jordanian guy called Amar keeping me company and urging me to run when I wanted to walk. The night sky was beautiful, saw small desert mice, some scorpion looking insects, and the sight of the finish line was for sore eyes. My food is getting very hard to swallow and I should have brought more salty snacks - Munchys - and some instant noodles. However, the chicken tikka, spicy mince and other stuff tastes just horrible now although it does have the calories required, thats if you can get it down. Two more days to go with a rest day today. Tomorow we do 42km, and the last day 21km with some sand dunes. Love all your messages so keep sending as my energy is falling and I am skinny. Miss you all and hope all is well.

  1. Wow! That's great news! 82 km stage is over! Great! Amazing stuff, Ralph! Can ' t even imagine running for 82 kms in desert in 50 deg C with a bag on the back! Just two more stages and they are minor when compared to your achievement so far! Bravo! Keep up the sprits! We can have lots of rotis and naans when you get back! I want to receive you in the Airport, Ralph. Please inform your flight details!

  2. Hi, Ralph,

That is great going and we are looking forward to hearing about the last part of your run. The message service through Dabaroud is out now, so I am writing on your blog now.

The scorpion-looking like things. Sound very interesting. What I would like to know is whether they were in fact scorpions or not. I remember you telling me before you started the run, that you eat scorpions for breakfast. These were not edible?

And I wonder if you received the 2 messages from Ralph Dixon to Ralph Dixon, arising from the inability to distinguish "sender" from "sendee". I guess I should have figured out there should have been a sendee. Not to mention the references about silly amphibian websites.

So, I just about managed to create a google account so that I can bother you on your blog and wish you the best for the end of your run. What an adventure you must be having.

I saw your portrait in that nice skirt on the Dabaroud site. Nice!

You do look skinny, so we'll work on getting you some deep fried fat when you get back, ya?

Have a great one, and we look forward to seeing you home!

  3. Dude, no noodles - didn't I tell you to take plenty of noodles and plenty of "Treats" of whatever kind you like - those little rewards are vital (I had noodles but no treats).
